Battlestar Galactica 's Lucy Lawless finally bares it all for her role as Lucretia, the rapacious wife of John Hannah's Batiatus, in Starz's upcoming Spartacus: Blood and Sand , and she's not shy about it. At all. Slavery, different attitudes to sexuality, prostitution, you name it. They thought of things differently, but essentially human beings haven't evolved so very much, so you're still able to relate to them. The hourlong drama is a new take on the story of a Roman gladiator who eventually leads a slave rebellion against Rome itself.

'Spartacus': Gore, nudity, nudity and gore
Patricia Sheridan's Breakfast With Lucy Lawless | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Lucy Lawless has dabbled in just about every geek genre known to drooling man, whether battling swords and sorcerers alike on Xena: Warrior Princess , infiltrating the Battlestar as a Cylon on Battlestar Galactica , and violating many an ancient slave on Spartacus: Blood and Sand. How does this prequel lend more insight into your character? We learn how Lucretia got to be the way she is: a pretty straightforward, horrible Roman wife. Her rotten old best friend, Gaia, shows up. I liken her to a college mate. She shows up and leads her down a path of destruction.

The first season - " Spartacus: Blood and Sand " - starred Australian actor Andy Whitfield as the leader of the slave revolt in ancient Rome. But Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma last March, and the role has since been recast. So "Gods of the Arena" is not, technically, the second season but a prequel to the first; Spartacus doesn't even appear, although Whitfield does a brief cameo later. Batiatus John Hannah - the slaveholding noble - and his better half, Lucretia Lucy Lawless - have a particularly brutal and effective warrior named Gannicus Dustin Clare in servitude. He is so good, in fact, that others want to buy him.
New Zealand actress Lucy Lawless says she has had to hit the gym for her latest sword-and-sandals series for television, Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Lawless, 41, was speaking as United States cable TV channel Starz unveiled the trailer for the gladiator series at a fan gathering in California, the Los Angeles Times reported. Billed as looking like the film - which was based on a graphic novel - with the nudity of HBO's Rome and the violence of Gladiator, Spartacus will have "a death toll like nothing you've seen on television before", producer Steven DeKnight told the audience.
